Katinka, music is such a big part of your creative world. When did you first realise that being an artist was something you wanted to pursue seriously?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved singing and performing. I loved dressing up and putting on makeup, and my room was always full of pink glitter. I used to invite friends and family to watch me sing and dance, so I’ve had a little singing star inside me ever since I was young.
As an EDM singer, you work in a genre built around energy, atmosphere and emotion. What do you want people to feel when they hear a Katinka Meidell track?
I want to touch people’s emotions with my music—whether it’s uplifting or deeply moving. I love creating songs that offer a sense of uplift and comfort, such as “Dance Away,” which is about looking toward the future and leaving sorrow behind; “Perfect Just the Way You Are”—the title says it all: you are perfect exactly as you are; and “Your Moment,” which is about deserving to live life on your own terms and following your dreams.
I believe that music is, in many ways, therapy for both the soul and the mind, and that it is a language that speaks directly to the emotions. I pour my whole heart and all my dedication into every song I create and share with the audience. I do not release a song unless I am one hundred percent satisfied with the result. I love sharing my music with you, and I hope it can touch your emotions as well.
From the music itself to the visuals surrounding it, how involved are you in creating the full identity of each release?
I write the songs myself and help shape the sound. I have a friend—a former DJ and producer—who is incredibly talented. He mixes the audio and gets all the sounds exactly right. He also helps me with the visuals and acts, in a way, as my photographer. I am very lucky and grateful to have him; without his help, I wouldn’t have been able to get my music out to people. It is incredibly fun to be in the studio, singing and creating music.
You also have a background in modelling. Has being in front of the camera influenced the way you present yourself and build your visual world as an artist?
Yes, absolutely, but I feel that being the public face of my own work—through my music and my identity—gives me so much more.
Makeup is another important part of your life, and you’ve taken that passion further by creating your own brand, Angelbeauty. What inspired you to turn your love of makeup into a business of your own?
I’ve loved makeup ever since I was little. I have a photo from when I was around six years old where I’m wearing my mom’s makeup—smeared all over my face—and smiling happily. In other words, I am a very feminine woman, and I always have been. A friend of mine thinks the pink interior of my car is so fun. It has also always been my dream to have my own makeup brand featuring the glamorous style I love so much, so launching my own brand, Angelbeauty, was a dream come true.
Music, modelling and beauty each give you a different creative language. Do these three worlds naturally influence one another when you’re developing a new idea or project?
Yes, I feel that way, and the reason is that I love what I do. I don’t do it to make money, but because I find it fun and feel that it is a big part of who I am.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited to create next—in music, with Angelbeauty, or perhaps in a completely new direction?
My latest track is called “One More Shoot”—a somewhat sexy, energetic song that I think many will enjoy and one that makes you want to dance. The music video is coming soon; I’ve already shared some photos here—shots of me posing with a vintage camera. I’m also proud of the song “Just Like an Angel,” which I released recently. Music and modelling are close to my heart, and I have a lot to share with you in the time ahead.
