Her new collection of twelve limited-edition sculptures, created in collaboration with Murano master artisans, is composed of crystal fragments that come together to symbolize what the Mexican artist describes as “a complete identity.”
Accompanied by Andrea Perotta, owner of the legendary New Murano Gallery in Venice, Italy, Mexican artist Gilda Garza began July by presenting her newest body of work to an international audience of collectors and distinguished guests at Atelier Muranese.
The collection was unveiled with the participation of renowned Murano glass master Mario Furlan, alongside prominent figures within Murano’s centuries-old artistic tradition.
The Kingdom of Light represents a cultural bridge between Mexico and Italy, bringing together the timeless craftsmanship of Venetian crystal with the contemporary vision of a Mexican artist.
A New Chapter
The Kingdom of Light also serves as a prelude to Garza’s upcoming exhibition this September, where she will introduce a new collaboration with Murano focused on collectible lighting sculptures, chandeliers, and artistic mirrors—expanding the visual universe of The Kingdom of Light into the world of collectible design while maintaining her distinctive royal aesthetic.
With this new collection, Gilda Garza continues to strengthen her international presence through monumental sculpture, artistic crystal, and luxury design projects, reaffirming her commitment to bringing Mexican art to the global stage.
To conclude the presentation, collectors were invited to an exclusive after-party at Orient Express Venezia, the iconic luxury hotel housed within one of Venice’s most historic palaces. The evening celebrated the union of art, heritage, design, and hospitality at the highest level, beneath magnificent Murano chandeliers crafted by the very artisans who continue this extraordinary centuries-old tradition.
GLAM WEEK EXCLUSIVE
What inspired The Kingdom of Light?
Gilda Garza:
The Kingdom of Light was born from a simple yet profound belief: every person carries an invisible crown. My sculptures are not about power over others—they are about the strength, wisdom, love, and light that already exist within us. Each crystal fragment represents a part of our story, and together they create a complete identity.
Why did you choose Murano for this collection?
Gilda Garza:
Murano is one of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. It represents centuries of craftsmanship, passion, and excellence. Collaborating with its master glassmakers allows me to unite Italian heritage with the soul of Mexican contemporary art. It is much more than a collaboration—it is a dialogue between two cultures.
What makes your work different from other contemporary artists?
Gilda Garza:
I don’t create sculptures simply to be admired—I create symbols. Every king, every queen, and every crown is designed to remind people of who they truly are. I want collectors to feel that they are bringing home a piece of inspiration, not just an artwork.
You often speak about crowns. What do they symbolize?
Gilda Garza:
The crown is not a symbol of status. It represents our highest self. It reminds us that greatness begins from within. Every person deserves to recognize their own light and live with purpose.
Luxury and art often meet in your career. How do you define luxury?
Gilda Garza:
True luxury is timeless. It is not about excess—it is about craftsmanship, authenticity, and emotion. Whether it is a Murano sculpture, a couture dress, or a historic palace, luxury tells a story and preserves human creativity.
Your work has been exhibited internationally. What does representing Mexico mean to you?
Gilda Garza:
It is one of the greatest honors of my career. Wherever I travel, I carry Mexico with me. I hope every exhibition inspires people to discover the richness, creativity, and spirit of Mexican art.
What emotions do you hope collectors experience when they see your work?
Gilda Garza:
I hope they feel hope. Strength. Beauty. I want them to pause for a moment and remember that light always exists—even in difficult times.
What’s next for Gilda Garza?
Gilda Garza:
This is only the beginning. I am expanding The Kingdom of Light into monumental sculptures, collectible chandeliers, artistic mirrors, and immersive exhibitions around the world. My dream is to create experiences where art becomes part of everyday life.
How has fashion influenced your artistic journey?
Gilda Garza:
Fashion has taught me that elegance is another form of storytelling. My long relationship with Roberto Cavalli showed me how art can move beyond the canvas and become part of a living experience. Couture and sculpture share the same purpose: to celebrate beauty, craftsmanship, and individuality.
If people remember one sentence about Gilda Garza, what would you like it to be?
Gilda Garza:
“I create crowns not to remind people who they should become, but to remind them who they have always been.”
