In this exclusive cover story, she shares the experiences that shaped her, the values that anchor her, and the vision she carries for the future of women everywhere.
Kalisa, your journey has brought together beauty, education, leadership, and public service. Looking back, what experiences have shaped your character most profoundly?
The experience that shaped my character the most was entering the entertainment industry seven years ago as a model. I literally started from zero. During the early years of law school in Jakarta, I attended auditions almost every day.
Fortunately, I was given opportunities to model clothing and accessories and participate in fashion shows for smaller events. After a few years of hard work, I was able to walk in larger and more prestigious events.
Many people spend years searching for their purpose. How has your understanding of purpose evolved as you’ve grown both personally and professionally?
I had to balance my studies with pursuing my dream of becoming a professional model. Without any modeling background, I taught myself and was fortunate enough to receive good opportunities.
I believe that nothing comes without effort.
There is no such thing as instant success. I take my career one step at a time, working diligently and consistently.
I don’t focus on people who don’t support me. Instead, I focus on my goals and on the people who support and love me.
You have dedicated much of your time to supporting women and communities. What have these experiences taught you about strength, compassion, and human connection?
During college, I spent a lot of time participating in social organizations outside of campus. I rarely spent time with people who did not contribute positively to my growth.
I preferred to invest my time in positive and meaningful activities, learning new things, and building relationships with experienced people who could help me improve myself.
Through these activities, I gained valuable experience and built a strong network.
In a world that often celebrates external success, what helps you stay connected to what truly matters in life?
Success should be shared with many people. I don’t want to live only for myself; I want to be useful to those around me.
For example, by creating jobs, helping people with legal issues as a lawyer, and participating in charitable activities.
The support of those closest to me, along with my strong determination, keeps me grounded. I also believe that God will provide guidance and opportunities.
When I set a goal, I believe I can achieve it, even when others criticize me or say it is impossible.
I have proven to myself that almost all of my dreams can come true through hard work and perseverance.
Throughout your journey, what has been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned about leadership and the responsibility that comes with influence?
I have a significant platform within social communities and on social media, which allows me to promote positive values, participate in charitable activities, and help people in need.
I believe it is wasteful to enjoy abundance alone. That is why I encourage my friends to become involved in charitable initiatives within our community.
You do not have to wait until you are wealthy to share with others. Setting aside even a small amount of what we have can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
When you imagine the legacy you are building today, what impact do you hope it will have on future generations of women?
Women play many roles in life: as individuals, mothers, wives, and professionals.
For young women, the journey toward empowerment begins with building self-confidence, continuing their education, developing skills, and having the courage to make decisions. These qualities help women become economically independent and create a positive impact on their communities.
Young women must continue to progress because they are key contributors to development and play an important role in shaping future generations.
With equal access to education, healthcare, and leadership opportunities, empowered women can create resilient families, stronger economies, and healthier societies.
Kalisa, if you could describe the woman you are becoming in just a few words, what would they be, and why do those qualities matter to you?
Five words that describe my character:
Intelligent
I am always eager to learn, set high standards for myself, and strive to perform at my best. I constantly seek opportunities to grow and improve.
Charming and Charismatic
I aim to radiate positive energy and bring confidence and warmth wherever I go.
Loyal and Honest
In relationships, I am loyal, loving, supportive, and fully committed.
Independent and Hardworking
I am persistent, determined, and committed to achieving my goals and overcoming challenges.
Kind-hearted with Strong Leadership Qualities
I always strive to become a better version of myself, inspire others, and make a positive impact wherever I am.
