Flaminia Villagrán is a woman of many talents—a doctor, entrepreneur, and artist whose journey defies conventions and embraces possibility. From founding the Total Health Clinic, which has expanded across multiple countries, to making her mark in the world of music with her distinctive artistic vision, she has built a career that balances science, creativity, and purpose. In this interview, she shares her insights on overcoming challenges, breaking barriers in male-dominated fields, and staying true to one’s passions while navigating the complexities of professional and personal life.

As a woman who has succeeded in multiple industries, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced, and how did you overcome it?

For me, the greatest challenge has been breaking free from the mental programming that is often instilled in us from childhood.
From a young age, we are exposed to beliefs that can create deep fears and insecurities. Breaking that cycle is not easy because it requires going to the root of what we think we are or should be.
I firmly believe that everyone can achieve their goals and dreams, but it does not happen by magic. It takes effort, dedication, sacrifice, commitment, and consistency. Even so, we often sabotage ourselves by doubting our abilities, postponing our dreams, or fearing what others might say. This holds us back.
Believing in oneself, overcoming fears, and focusing on a purpose requires great strength, courage, and introspection.
In my case, balancing my professional life with my role as a mother of four was one of my biggest fears. We live in a society that often pressures mothers to dedicate themselves exclusively to their children. Guilt, exhaustion, and social expectations can be overwhelming. However, I found strength in my purpose. I learned to organize myself, communicate with my children, set priorities, and most importantly, understand that giving my best in every area of my life is also a way to set an example of perseverance, passion, and dedication.
I have also learned that rejection is inevitable and that doors will sometimes close. It is painful and difficult, but instead of seeing it as failure, I view it as an opportunity to learn, adjust, and try again. There is always another door waiting to open.
Consistency, discipline, and sacrifice are essential. Even the smallest steps we take every day, no matter how insignificant they may seem, eventually lead to great transformations.

What advice would you give to women who want to make a name for themselves in male-dominated fields, such as medicine or music?

To women seeking to enter male-dominated fields like medicine or music, I would say: never doubt yourselves or your abilities.
I come from a small and conservative country, so I completely understand what it means to face traditional structures. However, I also know that we have the same capabilities and the same right to opportunities, even if the environment does not always make it easy.
We are living in a historic moment where our generation is opening doors for many others. This is both a privilege and a responsibility.
One key piece of advice is to avoid comparisons. Everyone has their own path and their own pace. When you focus your energy on what you want to achieve without looking sideways, you become stronger and move forward with greater clarity. Your uniqueness is your greatest strength.
It is also important to remember that it is possible to be a professional and have a family if that is what you desire. Motherhood is not an obstacle to success, even though society sometimes tries to convince us otherwise. On the contrary, it can be an immense source of motivation.

Your story is fascinating. You are a doctor, entrepreneur, and artist. How do you balance these aspects of your life, and what motivates you to keep exploring new areas?

I believe that true success lies in finding what you are passionate about. When you do something you truly love and with a sense of purpose, it does not feel like a burden but rather a joy. The saying “do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life” is absolutely true. It is about seeking what gives you life, daring to try new things, thinking outside the box, and staying creative.
For me, adaptability has also been essential. I have created spaces where my children can be close to me. In my clinic, I have a special area where they can stay after school, do their homework, spend time with me, and then we go home together. I take them to school when I am in town, and if I have to travel, I try to coordinate so they can come with me. I always explain the value of work to them and involve them in my projects, even in small ways. Children learn more from example than from words.
Of course, this requires effort, discipline, and sometimes sacrificing social activities, but every sacrifice has its reward. With consistency, it is possible to bring dreams to life and lead a fulfilling, passionate, and authentic life.
What motivates me to continue exploring new areas is leaving a legacy for my children. I want them to grow up as good people, with strong values and integrity, so they too can have a positive influence on those around them. Beyond that, making a difference, no matter how small, in the lives of others is what drives me to keep moving forward every day.

Throughout your journey, you have had the opportunity to travel and grow in different environments. How have these experiences influenced your personal and professional perspective?

Traveling has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life, both personally and professionally. It has shown me that the world is full of beauty, diversity, and opportunity. Every country and culture has something valuable to offer.
This is why I always travel with an open mind and heart, ready to absorb the best of each place—the most inspiring, innovative, and human aspects. Every country presents different opportunities, strategies, and methodologies, and I try to take the best from each to apply it elsewhere.
These experiences have enriched my perspective on medicine, art, and business. They have given me a broader, more empathetic, and more flexible outlook. I have learned to value adaptability as a strength and to integrate cultural insights into my work to create more authentic and global approaches.
On a personal level, traveling has reminded me of what truly matters: family, health, time, and meaningful human connections. It has taught me to live with humility, to keep learning every day, and to lead with purpose. Every face and every story I have encountered along the way has left me with lessons that I carry with me in my roles as a mother, doctor, and entrepreneur.

You founded Total Health Clinic in 2017 and have since expanded to several countries. What do you believe has been the greatest impact on your patients’ lives?

The greatest impact we have achieved at Total Health Clinic is restoring something that many people thought they had lost: confidence, self-love, and the joy of looking in the mirror and smiling.
In our clinic, we do not just transform faces; we transform lives. Each patient comes with a story, insecurities, and dreams, and the most powerful thing is witnessing how, with a human and professional approach, we help them reconnect with their self-worth.
At the core, all human beings share the same desire: to feel loved, accepted, and valued. While self-esteem should not rely solely on physical appearance, how we see ourselves and how we believe others see us deeply influences our emotional well-being.

In the constantly evolving field of aesthetic medicine, how do you stay ahead of the curve, and what innovations are you incorporating into your clinics?

I am constantly studying because I love what I do, and I travel to different countries to learn new techniques and discover the latest treatments to stay at the forefront of the industry.

Right now, the trend is shifting towards a more natural look, so we are focusing on bio-stimulators. We combine these with laser treatments and advanced technology, achieving excellent results. Every patient is unique and should not be treated with a one-size-fits-all approach. Our goal is always to meet each individual’s needs in the most personalized way possible.

You have had an impressive musical career with an artistic style that blends experimental and independent sounds. Do you have any plans to return to music with new projects?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I have never truly left it, even when I have had to take breaks due to my medical career.
Right now, I am working on a new project that excites me immensely. It is something different for me, much more intimate, and involves fusing genres I have never worked with before. Music has always been my way of connecting and expressing what words often cannot.

What are your next goals in both the medical and artistic fields, and what message do you hope to convey with them?

My focus is on continuing to grow our clinics, expanding into two more locations, and creating spaces where people find healing rather than pressure.
In music, I am thrilled to launch this new project, which I cannot wait to share.
